Socially Relevant Computing in Undergraduate Education
In this session, I will present two PostgreSQL supported content management systems developed by undergraduates that are having a real impact in the community. Gumshoe was instrumental in providing the analysis to support an investigative series on crime that was published in the Philadelphia Inquirer. CAF is helping change how middle schoolers learn computing by supporting an online magazine. Important foundational concepts, including data management, privacy, security and reliability, are introduced and reinforced through building socially relevant projects in undergraduate courses and research.
