The Coverity Scan effort applies static code analysis tools to open source codebases.

Initially sponsored by the US Department of Homeland Security, Coverity helps open source developers by finding software defects, and monitoring their persistence in the codebase over time.

The PostgreSQL Project has been included in the Coverity Scan since early in 2006. In 2010, Coverity is providing significant upgrades to the analysis engine which is used to analyze the PostgreSQL code.

This will be a split session - I'll provide a quick bit of background on the Scan efforts, and talk specifically about new functionality being made available to the PostgreSQL developers, then dig into outstanding issues in the PostgreSQL code. Developers with commit privileges are encouraged to attend and claim ownership of the defects we look at - either to look at writing fixes during the session, or subsequent to it.
