GPL, established in 1999 as a gratis hosting provider for Open Source software development projects, and now hosting more than 250,000 development projects, has been a long-standing user of PostgreSQL, dating back to the 6.3 days.

Through the years we have migrated through several versions of PG, moved to new hardware several times, established solid backup practices, conducted query analysis, monitored server performance, built a testing environment to aid our engineering team in testing their app code, and established a system environment which can readily be reproducibly redeployed from scratch on new hardware as needed.

In our session, we'll outline the basic practices we think essential for managing operations around a PostgreSQL deploy, and provide a summary of some of the resources available to help you with both the initial deployment and ongoing day-to-day operation
