The PostgreSQL system catalogs store metadata about SQL objects such as tables, clumns, functions, schemas, and more. This talk will explore the organization and structure of the system catalogs and explain how you can use these catalogs to manage and tune your database. We'll cover applications such as (1) getting a list of all tables that have no indices, (2) determining which tables or databases are taking up the most space on disk, and (3) examining the statistics gathered by the query planner, as well as the internal structure of the catalogs and how they're used by the database system.
